All of the hardwoods that are native to Indiana are very durable. Red oak, ash and maple are very stable, which means they do not crack or check as easily.
Though locust and hickory may crack, they are very strong and unique woods. These characteristics make very beautiful grains, unique shapes and color variation for the style of log furniture pieces that we produce. Spar varnish is a clear, exterior grade urethane that gives a weather resistant finish to preserve the outdoor pieces of log furniture.
